Dr. Laurie Nagelsmith, Excelsior College

Excelsior College today announced that Laurie Nagelsmith, PhD, RN, CNE, associate dean for regulatory and governmental affairs, has been appointment to the Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Board of Directors in the position of secretary.

“Being elected to the Board of Directors of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Honor Society of Nursing is important because it allows me to share a global view of nursing with our faculty and students,” said Nagelsmith. “It also gives me an opportunity to support the difference nurses make in advancing world health and allows me the privilege to support and advance scholarship, leadership, and the service of nurses globally.”

Founded in 1922, STTI supports learning, knowledge, and professional development of nurses making a difference in global health.

“I’m so excited to be part of STTI’s leadership team at a time when we will be moving forward our new president’s call to action, which is to serve locally, transform regionally, and lead globally,” Nagelsmith continued. “As secretary on the Board, I have pledged to foster clarity and understanding among our members and partners, while staying focused on STTI’s goals and working diplomatically toward our shared vision.”

As associate dean of the School of Nursing, Dr. Laurie Nagelsmith has provided leadership and coordination within the nursing degree programs, managing the College’s interactions the state boards of nursing and legislators in matters relevant to professional nursing education and licensure in all US jurisdictions. Dr. Nagelsmith has been an STTI member for 25 years.   In addition to her new role on STTI’s Board of Directors, she also currently serves as president of the Tau Kappa Chapter of STTI, North American Region 14.

Dr. Nagelsmith is a graduate of Albany Medical Center School of Nursing, The Sage Colleges, and the University at Albany, State University of New York.
