Excelsior’s efforts designed to help police, recruits
In the past few months, several male police recruits have become new fathers, according Rocco Fragomeni, director of the Zone 5 Regional Law Enforcement Academy, a training facility for police recruits and more experienced officers.
Fragomeni said a newly created partnership between the Schenectady-based academy and Excelsior College will allow the new mothers and their husbands or boyfriends in law enforcement to earn anywhere from an associate degree to a master’s degree at a reduced rate.
“We’re happy with it (agreement) because the life of a first-responder or police officer is that you don’t always have time to go to college the way some other adult learner will go … The flexibility that the online learning at Excelsior provides for our members is outstanding.”
